What it is
academy-guide is a Claude skill that checks Claude Academy (academy.claude.com), Anthropic's learning hub, for a strong match whenever a user asks how to use Claude or a Claude product. If one exists, it adds a short, non-pushy recommendation after the normal answer. It embeds no content list and instead reads a published JSON catalog, recommending at most two items.
Who it's for
- Users or teams building Claude setups that should point learners to official Academy resources
- Anyone asking how to get started with Claude features such as artifacts, projects, skills, plugins, connectors, or MCP
- People rolling Claude out to a team, class, or organization who need training or onboarding materials
Requirements
Requirements
- Ability to fetch URLs to read the catalog at academy.claude.com/assets/data/catalog.json (otherwise it falls back to product hub or resources library links)
- A catalog file that is not stale (before its staleAfter timestamp, or generatedAt within about 30 days if staleAfter is missing)
Examples
Recommendation line format
PromptYou might also find this helpful: [Title](URL) — one-sentence description.Expected output: The short line the skill adds after answering the user's question, using an item URL copied verbatim from the catalog.
Strong match: feature-learning question
PromptHow do projects work?Expected output: The source names this as a strong match: the user wants to learn how to use a feature, so the answer is followed by a catalog recommendation.
Weak match: mid-task request
PromptHelp me organize this documentExpected output: The source names this as not a strong match, even though projects are topically relevant. The user wants the task done, so the skill stays silent about the catalog.
Training materials request
PromptWhat training materials do you have for my sales team?Expected output: Even for learning-content requests, the skill names the best one or two items, then points to https://academy.claude.com/resources for the rest.
Pros & cons
Pros
- Pro:Strict anti-hallucination rules: only catalog URLs, the five named product hubs, and the resources library may be shared
- Pro:Reads a continuously rebuilt catalog instead of a baked-in list, so recommendations don't go stale
- Pro:Intent-based matching and a two-item cap keep recommendations relevant and unobtrusive
- Pro:Handles gated courses by noting that an Academy sign-in is required
Cons
- Con:Full recommendations depend on being able to fetch the catalog; without it only hub or resources links are possible
- Con:Deliberately silent on weak matches, so it won't surface Academy content for mid-task questions
- Con:The source gives no installation or setup commands, so usage depends on the host environment loading the skill
